Lessons for Gaimen Kirikae in Osaka Overview
We provide driving lessons for the test to convert your foreign driver’s license to Japanese one at a license center test circuit in Kadoma, Osaka. You can practice driving for the test in the driving circuit in Osaka used for the actual Gaimen Kirikae test.
There are some conditions stipulated by Kadoma license center.
A person who is age of 18 or over is allowed to practice in the test circuit.
Only 100 minutes (50 minutes × 2) a day is allowed to use the circuit
We provide driving lessons in an actual test circuit in Kadoma driver’s license test center. Maximum 100 minutes a day
The test circuit is open only Saturdays. Some Saturdays are not available. It depends on the license center’s schedule.
Note: Booking starts 12 days before and slots tend to be booked fully immediately. We recommend you decide the date of the lessons well in advance.
There are two types of driver’s license for regular sized vehicles in Japan. One is for manual transmission vehicles and automatic transmission cars. The other is for automatic transmission cars only.
You can convert valid foreign driver’s license to either “both manual and automatic” or “automatic only”.
If you would like to convert your license to one with “both manual and automatic” you need to practice and pass the test with a manual car.
If you pass the test with an automatic car and obtain the “automatic only” license, you are not permitted to drive a manual car on the public road.
If you would like to convert your license to “both manual and automatic”, we provide lessons only in the practice circuit in Nara.

Lessons are also provided on the public road in Kyoto if you have a valid international driving permit.
At least 3-hour lesson (1 day) in Nara practice circuit is required before the lessons in Kadoma actual test circuit. In Nara, you need to attain the driving skills required in actual test in Japan such as how to prepare for driving before moving off, how to turn the steering wheel properly, how to brake properly, how to turn properly, proper safety check, signaling, maneuvering and so on.
After that, in Kadoma license center, we practice under the test condition.
This service requires the following driver's license :
Foreign driver's license which can convert to Japanese license.
*Please confirm with a license center in your prefecture if your foreign driver's license can convert to Japanese license.

2. Arrange the lesson day and time . JYC staff contacts Osaka license center to confirm the availability of the test circuit and book.
3. Make the payment

If you make the payment using PayPal, 6% handling fee will be added to the lesson fee.)

We will send a confirmation of the lesson detail after the payment is

Frequently asked questions
-Question- I would like to obtain a driver’s license for manual transmission vehicles. Can I practice with a manual car? -Answer- Lessons for a manual transmission car is available only in Nara. Other than Nara practice circuit, we provide lessons only with an automatic transmission car. A person who are trying to take the test in a prefecture other than Nara can also practice in Nara.
-Question- Can I drive a manual transmission car after I obtain a license for automatic cars? -Answer- No you cannot drive a manual car if you obtain a driver’s license for automatic transmission car only. If you would like to drive a manual transmission car on the public road, you need to take and pass the test with a manual transmission car. If you pass the test with a manual car, you can drive both manual and automatic car on the public road.
-Question- Is it possible to upgrade may automatic license to manual one after obtaining an automatic car license? -Answer- It’s possible to upgrade your automatic car license to a manual car license. You need to take and pass the test with a manual car at a license censer again. Or, take a manual transmission training course and pass the test at an approved driving school.
-Question- I have experience of driving outside of Japan over 10 years. I know how to drive very well. Can I practice a couple of lessons only in Kadoma license center? -Answer- Just having experience of driving is not enough to pass the driving test in Japan. JYC driving school requires students to practice detailed skills required in the test at a practice circuit in Nara (such as proper driving posture, maneuvering, turning, signaling, safety check with mirrors, right of way rules, following rules of the road and so on). After that, we practice actual test route under the test condition in Kadoma license test circuit. Practice slots in Kadoma are always booked fully quickly, and slots that one person can take are strictly limited by license center office .In addition, days the circuit is released are only Saturdays. Therefore, we provide lessons in advance at a practice circuit in Nara so students can efficiently learn driving under the test condition in Kadoma actual driving test circuit.
